We’re looking for an experienced technical expert in web services technologies to join the Amazon Web Services (“AWS”) Platform team as a Sr. Software Engineer / Principal Engineer. The team is responsible for all the hard-core technical components that drive AWS multi-tier service-oriented architecture. AWS web-service offerings can be found at As a senior software developer on the AWSP team, you will work independently and with software engineers, program/product managers to create distributed applications and services, front-end API’s for developers and website owners to consume and be responsible for the design and development of various aspects of the AWS Platform. You will help shape the overall structure of the Amazon’s web service offerings.

The Retail Systems department is responsible for building systems and automated processes for “Amazon the Retailer”. It covers the technology aspects of managing selection, improving buyer productivity, enhancing holistic knowledge of the business for buyers and helping “out-niche the niche players” through product, price and presentation. Our goal is to create a retail business where humans give input and computers do the work with humans’ fine tuning the logic. In order to achieve this, our systems encompass many functional areas including catalog management, forecasting and inventory management, pricing, merchandizing, vendor management and self service tools for our buyers and vendors to efficiently manage the business.

From registration to the creation and maintenance of items, the PSMM team manages the entire selling experience for all merchants on the Amazon platform. For millions of registered merchants, PSMM provides the tools that allow them to manage their contributions to our catalog of over 100 million items. Our services provide transactional support for over 25 million content, price and inventory changes daily while simultaneously serving billions of requests for item data from our customers in an environment where response times are managed in single-digit milliseconds. The systems that we build and operate are central to the Amazon e-commerce platform. We manage the entire selling experience for all merchants on the platform ranging from enterprises as large as (yes, Amazon is a seller on this platform) and, to individuals like you who sell used textbooks or DVDs.

4+ year’s experience
Strong C++ and Java knowledge
BS degree in computer science
Experience working in a Unix/Linux environment
Applied Math or other similar statistical studies/background
