Clio Dunn demonstrated the installation and use of the Rockbox software as a GPL-licensed alternative firmware on the Apple Ipod. Rockbox will enable selected mp3 players to play flac, ogg, mp3, wav, aiff, and nine additional sound codecs. It also permits drag-and-drop file management and m3u playlist generation.

Denis Oxford demonstrated the use of Motion on a pair of web cams. Motion is a program that monitors the video signal from one or more cameras and is able to detect if a significant part of the picture has changed.

Motion runs on Linux and is available under the GNU General Public License.
